What IS Hypnotherapy?

Friends, I am SO EXCITED, I am now a certified hypnotherapist!!

But you may be wondering what in the world that even means. So, let me explain.

Hypnotherapy uses relaxation, extreme concentration and intense attention to achieve a heightened state of consciousness or mindfulness. 

This form of therapy is considered alternative medicine with the purpose of utilizing one's mind to help reduce or alleviate a variety of issues, such as psychological distress, phobias, limiting beliefs and unhealthy habits like smoking. The goal of hypnotherapy is to create a positive change in an individual while they are in a state of trance. 

Sometimes the best way to describe hypnosis is by first telling you what it is not.

  • It's not sleep
  • It's not a state of unconsciousness
  • It's not a loss of control
  • It's not about the client being gullible, weak minded, or "brain-washed"

It is:

  • An awake state of relaxation
  • Imagination and a gateway to the subconscious mind
  • About building rapport with your subconscious mind

All hypnosis is a form of SELF-hypnosis, I am simply a guide to help you tap into your subconscious mind. 

What is so powerful about the subconscious mind?

Your subconscious is a data-bank for everything which is not in your conscious mind. It stores your beliefs, records all your previous experiences, your memories and your skills. Everything that you have seen, done or thought is also in there. It's the part of our mind that is not logical, it's the feeling mind and it controls 95% of our lives. 

Let me try and break it down even further for you!

Your conscious mind involves all the things that you are currently aware of and thinking about.  

Psychology expert Marisa Peer explains that the first simple job your mind has is to keep you alive for as long as possible. To do that, your subconscious mind is hardwired to move you away from pain and towards pleasure. It is highly influenced by the words you say and the pictures you imagine. Your mind loves what is familiar and prefers to avoid anything unfamiliar. 

Your conscious mind may know that you should quit that unhealthy habit, or exercise more often, but this conscious willpower can only guide you so far. It’s the subconscious that needs rewiring in order to achieve your goals. Why? 

Our conscious mind can only hold on to 7 things (+-2) at a time. So let's say you want to start a new exercise routine and stick to it. So consciously you're thinking "okay, tomorrow I'm going to work out!" Then,

  • Your kid gets sick
  • You have a deadline coming up for a project
  • You need to buy groceries
  • The laundry needs to be done
  • Super needs to be cooked
  • You're reminding yourself that you need to make a vet appointment 
  • And you need to stop and pick up some more toothpaste 

With your conscious mind overloaded, working out becomes something that isn't even on your radar anymore because your conscious mind doesn't have room for it. BUT - if you were to integrate working out into your subconscious mind you wouldn't need to actively think about it anymore, it would be hard wired into your mind.

We have unlimited potential living in our subconscious mind but it's also constantly working to "protect" us and keep us from experiencing anything that's outside our comfort zone.

For the past few years, I've seen a hypnotherapist myself and it has drastically changed my life. With her help, we were able to rewire my limiting beliefs (about money), work through past traumas (from bad relationships) and plant in my subconscious mind new beliefs of worthiness and kick-assery. ;) With all the work we did together and the amount it helped me, I knew I wanted to go down this path so I could help others like she helped me!

Right now, I am a certified hypnotherapist that can help you work through the following things:

In September of this year, I'll be heading to Chicago for 9 days where I'll take my practice even deeper and also become certified in:

  • Emotional Freedom Techniques

With these new certifications, it will allow me to help you go even deeper into your subconscious mind and work to rewire your own limiting beliefs, deal with past traumas, do regression work and walk down your path of life with purpose and confidence!
